張彬彬 英詩作品

The Beauty of The Dancer             Oct. 4, 2024

The dancer whirls, the music flows,
The pulsing thread, winding through life,
Drawing you inward—into the deep well,
Of your own stories, your treasured silence,
And outward—into the great human song,
Where we all rise, fall, and belong.

See the dancer, her beauty like fire,
Spinning across the space between sighs,
The wave of her motion whispers:
You are here, now, where time meets space,
At the singular intersection of what was and what will be,
Held by beauty, surrounded by grace.

  Above you, the sky sings,
  Below you, the earth hums,
  Around you, the air stirs,
  Within you, beauty echoes,
  You see; you hear,
You feel; you wonder, and you belong!

You stand, not lost, but found,
The music of your being unfolding
  Right where you belong
The beauty above, below, around, within--
  The reason, the purpose,
  The heartbeat of existence.

  Here, now, you belong.

The Flight of My Free Verses                      Aug. 27, 2024

In the labyrinth of thought, I wander,
A maze of muse and tangled threads.
  Rubato moments stretch and accelerate,
  Resonance vibrating in cerebral cortex.

  Confusion twirls with frustration,
Their waltz a tempest in turmoil.
  Sensibility teeters on the edge,
A tightrope walker seeking calm in chaos.

  Amusement peeks through the fog,
A mischievous sprite, mocking my plight.
  I chase its elusive laughter,
  My fluttering heartbeat irregular.

No rhymes to anchor me, no structured meters,
Yet melodies echo in the spaces reverberating.
  Life’s rhythm, syncopated, reveals itself--
A chorus of dissonance and grace.

And so, I write, untethered, singing legato and coda.
My words like notes on a wind-blown staff.
In this avant-garde dance of syllables,
I find solace—my own bel canto.

In the Wake of Two Titans          Aug. 7, 2024

In the vast Pacific's open space,
Where ships of nations sail in peace,
And freedom reigns with open hands.

Yet as the Earth beneath us spins,
  With hegemony's shadow cast,
  The clash of visions—socialist dreams,
  And democratic hopes amassed.

  The East with Confucianism’s grace,
Speaks of harmony and shared respect,
While Western ideals strive to lead
  In paths where self-interests intersect.

Great empires rise and nations fall,
But wisdom whispers through the past:
  In dialogue and mutual call,
True harmony is built to last.

Through empathy, the clash may fade,
  Where self and other intertwine,
And in the mirror of our hearts,
A shared vision we may define.

Let the conversation be our guiding star,
In rich cultures, let kindness find
A way to bridge our deepest rifts,
To build a future, closely aligned.

In the grand expanse of cosmic dreams,
  Where human aspirations soar,
  May we, in unity, achieve
A world where peace means so much more.

Let greatness be a shared pursuit,
And rise anew with mutual grace,
For in the strength of joined resolve,
  We find our rightful place.

美國再偉大 中國再復興

Looking at the carved skeletal pumpkin for Halloween,
Watching the news of Hamas-Israel carnage,
  Reading Robert Kaplan’s “Balkan Ghosts”,
Listening to Saint Saens’ “Danse Macabre”,
I am savoring Charles Simic’s “Heights of Folly”:

    Heights of Folly

O crows circling over my head and cawing!
I admit to being, at times,
Suddenly, and without the slightest warning,
  Exceedingly happy.

  On a morning otherwise sunless,
  Strolling arm in arm
  Past some gallows-shaped trees
  With my dear Helen,
Who is also a strange bird,

With a feeling of being summoned
Urgently, but by a most gracious invitation
To breakfast on slices of watermelon
In the company of naked gods and goddesses
On a patch of last night's snow.

Note 1: This poem resonates with me deeply. Similar to Simic, who was one of the millions of displaced people in the Balkan Peninsula and witnessed various war atrocities during his youth, my family escaped the Japanese invasion and Communist persecutions.
I share a similar psychological perspective: a sense of darkness often precedes the experience of pleasure and enjoyment in life. It appears that our souls can never break free from the burden of shadowy fate.
Note 2: Helen of Troy is often depicted with birds in art and literature. For example, in the Homeric epics, Helen is said to have a bird-like voice. And in some later myths, Helen is said to have been transformed into a bird after her death

I then echoed Simic’s poem, Heights Of Folly, with my short poem:

    Ghosts                                 Oct. 24, 2023

Balkan Ghosts strolled with Faust's restless soul,
The midnight knell rang the strange bird's requiem.
Gallows-shaped trees cawed out sudden warnings,
Macabre dancers prostrated in sunless shadows.

An urgent happiness was summoned from above.
Last night's snow covered the valley of dry bones.
Sacred grace dawned, veiled in the shadow of Golgotha.
In the confounding whirlwind, the ghost of folly sucks by its aroma.

    Luau Party                      Sept. 1, 2023
  (at CCRC-Winchester Gardens)

Luau party keeps the summer spirit humming
But September's coming, fall is looming.
Hawaii shirt, lei around my neck,
Hula dance? Fun! What the heck?

Leaves still pride themselves in vibrant green.
Flowers compete with each other for the queen.
Seasons come. Seasons go. Time flows
Color turns. Leaves fall. My mood shouts out “gung-ho”.

     The Village                    Aug. 8, 2023
  (Moved into a CCRC-Winchester Gardens)

  The Place:

Flower gardens and a pond, chirping birds and dancing chipmunks
Tranquil oasis and rolling hills, grazing deer and crickets’ shrills
Quaint villas and the legacy hall, historical buildings and their inviting call
The town square and cozy cafes, socializing and sharing nostalgic days

Concerts and book club discussions, transcending time and space dimensions
Engaging talks and inspiring lectures, a journey through encounters and ventures
Games and intellectual engagements, mental challenges and aha moments
Meditation sessions and art classes, spiritual connection and divine recesses

Exercise classes and Tai Chi workouts, body tune-up and joyful shout out
Yoga balance and stretch resistance, aqua aerobics and training for persistence
Silver sneakers and strength training, walking club and muscle retaining
Nourished soma, psyche and spirit, healthy well-being and a holistic unit

Luxuriating in a carefree life, free from worry and doubt
Needs are always being met and medical services throughout
Comprehensive healthcare, right at your door
Assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and more

 Residents:

  A community of well-accomplished souls
Having wealth, achievements, recognition, and fulfilled goals
Converging into the village with a common prospect of life
No more chasing after the wind for a meaningless strife

Pursuing different dreams of intimacy and enchantment
Filling up memories with new minds and contentment
Enrichment to the soul as nourishment to the body
An exploration on a journey sanctified to be holy

A home where shared values and purposes are forever
In-place aging with lasting friendship; “Now, or never”
For life is richer with connections of the heart.
The true purpose is found in bonds that never part.

The season of life and the ultimate homecoming
The persistent passion and the act of redeeming
  Helping hands and companionship
The camaraderie of one another and fellowship

Sharing one’s talents and showing one’s zest
Making a difference and striving for the community’s best
Bringing a smile and shining a ray of light
Instilling hope and the rainbow being bright

The somas with white hairs and the somas in wheelchairs
All somas, created from dust and returning to dust
But the light of a soul and its destiny under the divine control
The flame of the spirit and its legacy posterity inherit

The flowing river of the spirit and the eternity of the spirit
The source of testament and the fountain of enlightenment
Aging in place and planning for resting in peace
My soul in a spirited village and my spirit in His tutelage.

     敬悼建中八班班長李宗德醫師     April 24, 2023

In memory of our dear class president,
Whose loss leaves us in deep lament,
We are here to remember and reflect,
In a life so noble, so perfect.

  His leadership united us all,
In Ba-ban class, he stood so tall,
With a heart so pure, a soul so bright,
Guiding us with wisdom and foresight.

His dedication to the needy and poor,
A philanthropist at his very core,
  Generosity flowed from his heart,
Leaving an indelible mark, an example to impart.

Yet, he remained humble, never boastful,
  His mannerism always so thoughtful,
  Keeping a low-key, a modest grace,
A true embodiment of humility's embrace.

A beloved class president, a cherished friend,
  Whose influence will never end.
So let us bid our dear friend adieu,
With heavy hearts and tears anew,

Rest in peace, our beloved class president,
Your legacy will be an eternal testament,
  A life well-lived, a soul so pure,
  Forever remembered, our hearts endure.

  With deepest sympathy,

     Void                    Feb. 20, 2023

  Vacuum is void of air.
  Cold is void of heat.
  Dryness is void of moisture
  Dark is void of light.
  Chaos is void of order.
  Nothingness is void of substance.

  Ignorance is void of knowledge.
  Greed is void of generosity.
  Hate is void of love.
  Injustice is void of fairness.
  Despair is void of hope.
  Death is void of life.

Sin is a state of spiritual death, or void of life.
  Life is in the blood
Leviticus 17:11
  Unblemished blood contains sacred life
Sacred life can fill the void of spirituality.
Ancient blood offering filled temporarily the spiritual void.
Sacred blood on the cross filled permanently the spiritual void.

The incarnated God bridged the void between humanity and Him.
Salvation fills the void of spiritual darkness.
Redemption fills the void of despair and hopelessness.
Atonement fills the void of loneliness and emptiness.
The light shines into the void of our spirits.
The cross fills the void in our souls.

     A Tapestry of Life               Feb. 5, 2023

Interlaced knots, jumbled heaps, chaotic ties
Our lives, the back of a tapestry, full of surprises
To see the beauty of the woven ethos in the front,
Behold the back moaning of each strand’s grunt.

The tapestry of life, crafted by the Lord
Journeys through needles, no matter how abhorred.
Each day is a thread, woven with His loving care.
Each stitch’s challenging burden, He will bear.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Prov 1:7
Weaving threads of life with God’s protective hedge
A tapestry of beauty fulfills a rainbow of dreams.
God’s wisdom yields the best result by the best means.

The Spirit of Ba Ban Lives On!               Jan. 27, 2023

  The cheerful Sports Competition Games
Ba Ban junior year’s eager claim
  Staged by desks and chairs
  Cymbals shouted and drums declared.

  Winning prizes were not counted.
High in the air, Ba Ban’s spirit mounted.
The “Best Game Spirit” Award for Ba Ban was nominated.
But by the Dean of Disciplinary Affairs, the Award was repudiated.

He said those desks and chairs were illegally moved.
And asked if those cymbals and drums were temple approved?
Then came the rescue of our beloved Teacher Lu (盧老師), 王禹治’s Mom.
She stood tall and defended our spirit with just and calm. Ba Ban was awarded.

In resonated spirit, we come together,
Joy and laughter in every endeavor.
May the spirit of Ba Ban lives on
And our colorful memories stay as fresh as the dawn!

Counting My Blessings               Jan. 15, 2023

My basement is dry for I don’t live in California.
I get fresh water for I am not in Mississippi.
I have a roof over my head for I am not in Ukraine.

I feel the air through my nose, so I know life is still in me.
My body is slowing down, but my memories are still dancing.
I don’t worry about the future, it will arrive soon enough.

  I’m not a senior citizen, I’m a seasoned citizen.
I am blessed that all my naps are “happy hours”.
Food on the table, though no personal chef, I have an air fryer.

Most important of all, I do not have classified documents in my study,
And the FBI did not search my house!

     Random Thoughts                    Jan. 3, 2023

I’m not lazy; I’m efficient in saving energy.
I’m not procrastinating; for the right moment of motivation I’m waiting!
I’m not late; I’m just fashionable on time.
The problem with the future is that it always ends up becoming the past.
I’m not a genie, but I can grant your wish for a small fee.
The only thing standing between me and greatness is reality.

I wonder why Noah did not just use the weather App? Instead, he built that bulky ark!

I think the group of architects for the Tower of Babel tried to outdo each other on Linkedin.

While the giant fish could stomach Jonah, I can’t stomach anchovies on my pizza.
I let my wife cut my hair because I know I do not have Samson’s strength.
I’m not like Eve or Adam, I am very cautious about the free dental plan.
If I had a prodigal son, my accountant would estimate the tax harvesting amount

Philistines seek nods from patronized artists.
Jekyll incriminates his alter-ego, Mr. Hyde.
The truth believers love not neighbors.
Devil’s politeness invites selling of souls.

Whitewashed tombs are full of dead bones.
Crocodile tears flush the blood in the mouth.
The fox preaches in the chicken coop.
  The chameleon repaints its surroundings.
The sheep-skinned wolf socializes with sheep.
  The dragon trains the fire-fighters.

The fortune-teller tells the truth in the crystal ball.
  The politicians promise again.
The scale of justice weighs the power and interest.
The media select the most of “Likes”.
The preacher talks the talk and talks the walk.
Celebrities hire tax accountants for charity donations.

The watchful eyes above see through all follies.

Justice vs. Fairness          Dec. 21, 2022

  God’s judgment is always just.
  His omniscience commands full trust.
God's ways are often not our ways.
So His actions may appear unfair on display.

Justice is according to God’s rules and principles.
Fairness means being unbiased and impartial.
God’s actions are ultimately just and fair.
His high purposes, hidden, may catch us unaware.

  Job’s suffering seems unfair,
But God’s justice, in the end, is clear.
Solomon's test of cutting the baby in half may seem fair,
But striving for justice was his only care.

God’s trials through suffering seem so unfair.
But greater challenges later, so we can bear.
The wicked may prosper, the righteous may be oppressed.
But in God's kingdom, justice is eventually blessed.

Revealing His principles of justice and fairness,
God’s actions shine with His divine holiness.
In all circumstances, even beyond our comprehension,
We ought to repent and turn toward the path of redemption.

  Amen.

Lamentation of Love 譯自 劉歡《情怨》        Oct. 12, 2019

  Every sleepless night
The vision of you appears in sight.
  Steering a small boat
  In the mist, drifting afloat

Facing the end of the rope,
Your helping hand shines a hope.
  Your selfless tender care
The flame of my heart flares.

  Years have passed by,
But my embrace bids no bye.
Flushed glances, gone with the wind
Your eyes lingering in my mind
Lovers fear most a ruthless fate.
  Bonded hearts destined to separate.

The vista of blue sky and sea
  Your apparition haunts me.
  My anguish reappears.
  My heart won't be free.

Sharing my Story          June 16, 2022

My grandson designed an egg container with a parachute.
He dropped the apparatus from the second floor.
The egg was protected successfully with everyone’s salute
  And, the young mind scored!

I challenged him: Why is the eggshell strong and fragile?
God designed it to be strong so the hen can sit on it to hatch.
God designed it to be fragile so the chick can break it with a smile.
For the perfection of God’s design, there is no match.

If an egg is broken by outside force, life ends.
If it is broken from inside, life begins.
Wonder always starts from inside. God’s grace transcends.
Believe in yourself, and your life sparks always from within.

How many divine thoughts must transpire

The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Do not go gentle into that good fight,
Rage, rage against the dying old self in the dark night.
The Reborn self should rejoice and revel at dawn of the day.(2)
Do not go gentle into that good flight,
Soar, soar against the burdened yoke, freedom in sight.
Eyes on the stars, and feet on the ground, I pray.

The Definition of Woman?      Mar 27, 2022

“Can you provide a definition for the word ‘woman’?”
The Tennessee Senator asked Ketanji Brown Jackson.
A definition to be answered by a biologist?
Or, to be understood by a Bible apologist?
When a female soul is confined in a male body,
When a true gender is revealed as Transexuality,
Is it an outcome of the fallen humanity?

At the Edge of the Eternal Fire                         Jan. 8, 2022

   When tectonic plates collide;
When the landmass shakes and opens wide,
   When the Hell’s fire through fissures thrusts;
And when the magma puffs poisonous dusts,
Lava flows from the chamber inside
And everything in its path dies.

People near the faulty earth crust
   Embracing a spelled trust
   Face the fiery tide, and
   Find no place to hide.
At the edge of the eternal fire
   I ponder what Satan conspires.

   Footnotes:
  1. We stayed in a small volcanic town, Pozzuoli, Italy, by the Bay of Naples in 1982. We enjoyed visiting some Roman ruins and volcanic bubbling mud, etc. In mid-1983 we read the news that a major earthquake destroyed the entire town and the hotel we stayed in was gone.
  2. After we visited Bali in 1999, a devastating earthquake devoured Bali in 2004.
  3. The 2010 tsunami devastated the coastal area of Chile, where we toured in 2000.
  4. We stayed at a hotel next to the Christchurch Cathedral, Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2008. In 2011, we saw the picture that the Cathedral as well as our hotel was severely damaged by the 2011 major earthquake.
  5. We were in La Palma Island in 2015, and now witnessed the long 85-day eruption of its volcano in 2021.

The epiphany of the Manger smells frankincense with gunpowder.
The sight of the shepherd’s field bears both glory and disorder.
The annunciation of angels meets confounded shouts of struggles.
The City of David anoints both divinity and humanity’s troubles.

Yet, the Holy Spirit delivered Emmanuel, “God is with us.”
Faith vindicated the Magi to circumvent Herod, the treacherous.
Hope echoes the sound of eternity out of chaos.
Love illuminates into darkness the immutable Logos.
Peace of Christ dissecting evils, rules our heart.
Joy endures suffering for He is not drifting apart.
Repentance evokes the depth of divine revelation.

The Puzzle of Decreased Brain Size                         Dec 22, 2021

A puzzle about the most complex organ, the brain
Decreased in size about 3,000 years ago, can’t be explained
Thanks to the study of the biological anthropology
The hypothesis of the behavioral evolutionary ecology
Brain shrinkage parallels the expansion of collective intelligence
Smaller brains use less energy, a piece of important evidence
The externalization of knowledge in human societies
Storing lots of information in brains requires efficient properties.
The smaller brain size yields energy efficiency.
The evolution of decreased size harvests proficiency.

Ants and human societies share aspects of social life.
Collective intelligence enables a society to thrive.

The True Love                         Dec. 18, 2021

“..I remember my stepfather, would beat me with extension cords and hangers or pieces of wood and all kinds
of stuff. He would tell me: “It hurt me more than I hurt you; I only did it, because I love you”. It communicated the
wrong message to me about what love was. So for many years, I thought that love was supposed to hurt. I hurt everyone
I loved, and I measured love by how much pain someone would take from me. And it wasn’t until I came to prison in an
environment that is devoid of love that I began to have some understanding about what it actually was and was not.

I met someone. She gave me my first real insight into what love was because she saw past my condition and the fact
that I was in prison with a life sentence for murder, and not just a murder, but for doing the worst kind of murder that
a man can do: murdering a woman and a child. It was Agnes, the mother and grandmother of Patricia and Chris, that
I murdered, who gave me my best lesson about love. By all rights she should hate me. But she didn’t. Over the course
of time, through the journey that we took, it has been pretty amazing, she gave me love. ….( tears flowing) She taught
me what it was.“

   Ignorance and fear breed abhorrence.
Hatred and anger burst into violence.
Forgiveness extinguishes the inner flame of disgrace.
Forgiveness illuminates the love of God’s embrace.

Love breathes more lives than darkness obliterates.
St. Paul converted more hearts than he assassinated.
Forgive the unforgivable, God’s merciful compassion
Love the unlovable, God’s magical transformation

The redemptive cross is the sublime expression of love.
The human heart reflects the ultimate image from above.
Love shines light into the depth of darkness.
Love gives birth to a new life of worthiness.

   Decapolis                         Oct. 10, 2021

Decapolis (“Ten Cities”) as Romans called the region
Southeast of the Galilee Sea, many gentiles of God aversion
Umm Qais exhibits its ruins of Gadara, my memory flutters.
Where Jesus expelled demons into pigs drowning in the waters.

“They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes.” Luke 8:26
Jesus opened the beggar’s ears and released his tongue.
Jerash, one of Decapolis, the most well-preserved Roman city.
The 5th century quake swallowed it and sheltered it from war fatality.

   Capernaum                         Oct. 8, 2021

At the northern shore of Galilee Sea
Jesus to Peter and Andrew: “Follow me!”
The tax collector of the town in the collection booth
Jesus called him Matthew whose Gospel reveals the Truth.

The healing of the possessed by an unclean spirit
The fever of Peter’s mother-in-law was cured by His visit.
The paralysis of a Roman centurion’s servant: “Let it be done”
The paralytic through the roof: “Your sins are forgiven, son”

The fishing village, full of miracles, Jesus’ ministry for believers
A one-room house with markings of “Lord”, “Jesus” and “Peter”
An octagon church of 5th century enshrined Peter’s house.
The Franciscan church with a glass floor, Peter’s soul to espouse

   Bing’s Paraprosdokians                         Sept. 7, 2021

I am old and now, for sure I know that I know nothing for sure.
Where there is will, find someone to pay the way.
   Nothing ventured, nothing of pains
Blessed are Robinhood speculators, for they will inherit a bubble.
Your guess is as good as mine. That makes us both idiots.
Every cloud has a silver lining, until you find out that it is plated.
Easier said than done, I am done with what I said, then what?
I see the light at the end of the tunnel, it’s a warning light.
The news came straight from the horse’s mouth; it turned out to be a Trojan horse.
I do not see the wood for the trees in the smoke of Caldor fire.

Lying Flat or Lying To Yourself             July 4, 2021

Lying flat so you can find yourself?
After all, “who am I?”; “Why do I exist?
“How did I get here and lost in the mist?”
“What is life? What is its purpose?”
  “Do I see life’s worthiness?”

Lying flat so you ponder all the questions
“Who created me? Who created the universe?”
“Why am I suffering with endless curses?”
“If existence is not an accident, what’s the reason?”
  “Have I learned the lesson?

Lying flat but lying not to yourself
Yes, you were created. You are here at this moment
For a purpose, a divine commitment
A loving One is always present with you in spirit
And a good Book called the Bible , please read it.

The Divine Code of 9 In Space Exploration                         July 2, 2021

The magic number of 9 spells divinity.
Dissecting continuously a circle of 360 degrees,
Adding up individual digits, one always gets 9.
    180; 90; 45; 22.5; 11.25; ..etc. reveal God’s design.
The sum of angles of any regular polygon
When adding all digits of angles, one always gets 9.

9 symbolizes divine completeness and a new beginning.
Christ died at the 9th hour of the day, salvation dawning

Richard Branson’s flying into space on 7/11 on Virgin Galactic
With his auspicious date blessed by 9 (7+1+1)
The first one is to be double blessed by double 9’s ( 7+11=2x9)
Jeff Bezos flying into space on 7/20 on Blue Origin
With his auspicious date blessed by 9 (7+2+0)
The second one is to be triple blessed by triple 9’s (7+20=3x9)

When more spirits rendezvous at the height of heaven,
With God’s touch, human minds are forever driven.
My mind is sparked today (7/2) by the divine code of 9 (7+2)
By the Holy Spirit, His light shines!

Mask, or No Mask                          June 18, 2021

To wear, or not to wear: that is the question

Am I more protected against than protecting?

I know I am vaccinated, but know not what I may be infected.

If you cough at me, do I not inhale?
If you are too near me, do I viral load more?
And if you insist, shall I not respond?

The fault lies not within understanding,
But in ourselves, we are underlings of our wills.

There is nothing either right or wrong, but thinking makes it so.

I may be a fool, but speaking truth with no holds barred.

   My Father's Four Wishes                                                                 April 2, 2021

      生息願共花木競榮
      俯仰願隨年華日新
      上下願與天地同流

“Mind liberated, willing to soar with birds and creatures.
Soul breathed, willing to strive for honor with flowers and trees.
Action measured, willing to attain rejoicing and rebirth.
Cosmos unbound, willing to flow with heaven and earth.”

1 Peter 1:23 – For you have been born again, not of perishable seed,
but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

Acts 17:24 – The God who made the world and all things in it, since He
Is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with

Hypocrisy of the West                                                                  March 27, 2021

Under the banner of humanitarianism, imperialism was a deed of liberation.

With a “justified” cause, colonizing was legitimate.

Under the slogan of democracy, exploitation was to advance civilization.

Now, the catch phrase of “World Order” hides hypocrisy, superiority complex, national selfishness, and economic persecution.

   A Corporate Prayer                                                                  March 25, 2021

    Dear God,
We come before you to confess our iniquity.
Our founding fathers laid a foundation of equality.
    “All men are created equal.”
An ideology deeply rooted, being biblical.

Yet, our history has been littered with injustice.
Racial discriminations have been common practice.
    Ignorant insulting; senseless slurring
    Wanton shooting; deadly murdering

We pray there is neither white nor black,
Neither Jews, nor gentiles, neither Asian, nor Hispanic,
Neither natives nor immigrants, neither they, nor us,
For we all are ONE in our Creator thus

We pray each heart dwells not in hatred, nor in partiality.
We pray there is no pride but only humility.
Our supplications are made for all the people and authorities.
Our intercessions are guided for all ethnicities and communities.

We pray Your mighty power erases prejudice and biases.
We pray Your mercy suppresses violence and abuses.
We pray the country is healed from the divided strife.
We pray we may lead a peaceful and an orderly life.

   Contemplating Psalm 19 & 2 Peter 3                                                                  March 7, 2021

The heaven’s glory pierces through the flesh boundary
The words of the sky light a faithful heart.

The Lord’s law sustains the order from disorder.
    The firmament cleanses secret faults.

The enclosed entropy increases through time.
The Holy hands uphold the energy of water and fire.
The flesh boundary separates humanity from divinity.
The illuminated soul connects the inward with the outward.

The scoffers cannot hide under Heaven’s light.
The previous world perished in the Great Flood.
The existing world is to be devoured by the judgment fire.
The vigilant saints enter the new heaven and earth.

When humanity and divinity are one,
When the flesh boundary is gone,
When the inward and the outward are in balance,
When the enclosed universe returns to His bosom,

No more a day or a thousand-year, time has no meaning,
No more Thermodynamic laws, The Lord’s law reigns.
No more entropy or disorder, only peace and love flow.
No more pains or suffering, only joy and glory glow.

   A Serendipity                                                                  March 8, 2021

Serendipity was when our high school lives intersected.

Serendipity was when we met at Sister Lauren’s class.

Serendipity was when we both shared literary interests.

Serendipity was an old photo when our fathers met.

   Suffering                                             Feb. 18, 2021

The lethal Covid cell intersects my time and space.
My soul ponders its reason and purpose

If life is the blessing of His Grace,
What will the lightening storm disclose?

Challenges I face; trials I embrace
I can choose, or on my fate I impose.

    Suffering finds wisdom from within.
Wisdom finds the source from above.

Suffering asks where off track I had been.
He shines a light on my path with love

Suffering awakes my mind in the dark bin.
I knock on His door so the burdens I'm absolved of.

Amalfi Coast Drive & Bus                                             Dec. 22, 2020
(Recollection after enjoying 崇正兄's Poem 眾神之步徑)

1971, in a stick shift car
To Amalfi from Rome, we ventured far.

    Untouched God's creation
    Before the onslaught of modernization

    Romanic road engineering
    Before autostrada's invading

My first experience making the hairpin turn
Which made my pounding heart burn

Stunning views, but the looming threat
    A memory we cannot forget

    Celebrating our "proud" driving feat
A local Italiano insisted that we try something neat

Taking a local bus, and seating in the last row
By the window looking down: "Oh! No, Oh! No"

At each hairpin turn, I was in the air
I prayed for each downward stare!

  December Breakout                                                                  Nov., 2020
Resonant With Mr. John Liang's 2 Poems:十二月 and 突圍:
      http://www.sturgonlink.com/Kaiching/JianGuo62/LCC.Breakout.doc

December, the shortest sunshine, the coming coldest days
America, shrouded in broken leadership in the darkest haze

The raging virus, the death knell rings out expired souls.
In a divided nation, ballots are counted under red and blue poles.

The outbreak of the second wave in helpless ways
Looking ahead with a tearful gaze seeking sunshine rays

    ☆  ☆  ☆  More thoughts: ☆  ☆  ☆

The serpent said to Eve: “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
Implanting doubt, a credulous mind became confounded for certain.

If a conspiracy theory meets the heart's desire, it becomes the truth of sincerity.
The truth then becomes a belief, and the belief becomes a conviction of polarity.

The self-interest shysters then justify its validity
The false teaching preachers then sanctify its Biblical nobility

The horde finds an outlet for their deep-seated biases.
The fanned resentments permeate harmful viruses.

Make America Indeed Great Again (MAIGA)                                     Nov., 2020

    God's instrument; His vessel
God's will is done; His purpose is fulfilled.

"The ballot is stronger than the bullet." Abe
Founding Fathers' spirit is preserved to the fullest.

    Prized heritage is maintained.
Safeguarding the Constitution is not in vain.

    Returning to civility, restoring sanity
    Embracing responsibility, protecting morality

Given the Truth, bringing back the real facts
In future youths' minds, planting positive impacts

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Abe
May the stormy present be calmed by the Lord's hand.

May the unheard voices be heard, the ignored be attended.
May all minds turn to God's words, the brokenness be amended.

To all the hostilities may God put an end.
    Make America
indeed great again!

Reflecting On Birch Lake                                     Oct. 10, 2020

A bouquet of colors emerges. Its refreshing scent breezes.

The mirror of the surface reflects. My mind introspects.

The soul of the sky dives in the deep, yet flies high up the steep.

Peace silences whispers of trees. My thoughts spark a chasing spree.

My mind often chooses whatever it pleases. My heart often teases.

Monet Lives On In NJ                                     Sept. 24, 2020

    2003, Giverny, France
When time, space, and nature melted in a trance,
Claude Monet cast his enchanted glance
On the bridge over water-lilies we danced.

2010, Grounds For Sculpture, Hamilton (NJ)
    Monet's spiritual impression lives on.
His motifs have been sculpted to look upon.
Changing of seasons, but his lights are never gone.

2020, Leonard J. Buck Garden, Far Hills (NJ)
Wonderful serendipity for the pleasure of the eyes
Water-lilies pond, wooden bridge, Monet by surprise!
Spiritual impression, God's nature by Monet, His glory arises.

  Hagia Sophia                                     July 10, 2020

Oh! Hagia Sophia, a church, a mosque, a museum
And now, again becomes Allah's Sanctum.
Woe to the world heritage of humanity
Weeping columns tear the holy spirituality.
Woe to the wholeness of Sofia's wisdom
A wedge into the unity of God's kingdom

May Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac's Allah of Mercy
    Reveal the truth of prophecies.
May Moses and King David's Yahweh of Grace
Reveal the truth of God's shining face.
May the triune God, our Lord of Love
Reveal the truth of the sovereign God above.
    Amen

  Suffering                                     July 1, 2020

    Suffering: retribution of nemesis?

Or, a calling of mind's metamorphosis?

    Anguished by pains and tortures

But, rejoicing we are God's creatures.

    Molting the chrysalis' unworthiness

Flapping new wings toward His holiness

    Remaining bonded in the pupa?

Or, cradled in the bosom of Heavenly Papa?

My Ask, My Seeking and My Knock                        Mar. 23, 2020
(What a Difference a Month Makes)

I have never been so scared in a short month
    On my knee, I pray:

    Dear God, Our Heavenly Father:

    Is this your purposed trial?
    Or your sovereign will?
The lethal pathogen, its cunning mutation
The invisible demon, its fast multiplication
    People are infected. Many perished.
    Cities locked down, Economy drowned.
A wakeup call from the plague?
    But the divine sign vague.
We know You are not the author.
For atonement, You allow the torture.

Through Moses, You gave us Commandments.
    Disobedience has earned justified punishments.
Your grace has shined abundant forgiveness.
Yet, hardened hearts insisted to seek wantonness.
The lamb's blood on doorposts, passed over by death ghost.
Your trumpet blasts. Will our fear and trembling last?
Distancing or isolation gives opportunities to introspect.
On God's words and His sovereign will we can reflect.
We ask, we seek and we humbly knock on your door.
Mercy on us, I pray for your wisdom to fight this war.

Serendipity On the Island of Serendip                            Mar. 2, 2020

On the Island of Serendip, the lions' dwelling place
Persian merchant's missing camel, a perplexing case
Three princes' sleuth, exploring the unexpected
Discovered the undetected but always suspected.
The three princes of Serendip gave birth to "Serendipity"
Chance from a prepared mind can yield epiphany.

Cinnamon, the once sought-after luxury, a rare commodity
Portuguese traders discovered cinnamon trees in Ceylon by serendipity.
"Serendip" denotes the antiquity of the Island of Ceylon
Dutch and British imperial powers were settled on.

Sipping the well-known Ceylon tea, with an infusion of Ceylon's history
Zheng He's visits inscribed in stone telling his voyage into the uncharted territory
The fortified Galle City exhibiting Colonial exploitation from seafaring powers
Churches with Hindu and Buddhist temples hiding in the jungle wildflowers.
I am imbued with the mysterious spirit of the Ceylon island, now known as Sri Lanka.

  Our Eventful QM2 Cruise

   Pollywog to Shellback
    Feb. 24, 2020
Another reborn experience, after being reborn as a Christian?
Have I proven my seaworthiness? And performed King Neptune's mission?
My homage to the King of Sea is lacking, I am guilty of pollywog's free living.
The punishment of slimy dump is deserving, more and more are welcoming.
Sanctify me, please, as a seasoned shellback for I have crossed the line by sailing.
The sacred equator is smiling. Oh! the King of Sea is God's sovereign and ruling.

   A Mind Journey on QM2    Feb. 23, 2020
Ports and towns fertilized by the indigenous cultures and traditions
My uplifted emotions, my broadened perceptions
A mind journey paralleled my physical sightseeing.
    Celebrity presentations stimulate intellectual pursuing.
"Insights Lecture" series illuminate mental curiosity for my education.
Quiet lounges and the well-collected library further my mind's exploration.
My day Morpheus gelled with the waves of the ocean.
I captured the profundity of a gleaming apparition.

   Ostracized      Feb. 22, 2020
Outsized scare infects our Senior Center more than Coronavirus.
Our return from 2-week's self-quarantine onboard QM2 seems not to suffice.
Friends' phone calls greet not our homecoming but warn us not approaching.
Our nostrils anti-infection sprayed, Our faces mask covered.
Our hands always 20-second washed, Our touch of door handles tissue wrapped.
At all the security checkpoints, each page of our passports was scrutinized.
Our health conditions were questioned but we were never racially victimized,
Now, at home, we are ostracized!
Paranoia clouds reasonableness. and panic whets self-centeredness.
Those who usually showed up to play ping-pong with cold or flu virus
Should reciprocate the same courtesy by not showing up to infect us.

  2020 Vision                                     Jan. 1, 2020

2020: A year of clear vision?

A year of election or eviction?
    A year of continued deception?
    A year of inspired realization?

    A year of economic expansion?
    A year of bubble illusion?
A year of unending opinionated division?

    A year of forever exploration?
    A year of lingering confusion
    A year of enlightened conviction?

    A year of tormenting confrontation?
    A year of relationship reconciliation?
A year of a peaceful solution?

2020: May God grace a year of revelation!

A New Flash In Mind                              Nov. 19, 2019

    Decluttering an old pile

    Serendipity sparks a smile.

Cherished moments meander at bygone places.

    Young dreams chased fearless races.

Fifty years later, reality awakes after all trials!

The Oratorio Of Colors                              Oct. 15, 2019

When leaves and seasons reach a crescendo,
When hues and shades play their capriccio,
Our souls resonate with autumn's oratorio.

    When time and space intersect,
    When experience and memory connect,
    A real meaning existence detects.

    When two minds echo,
    When they desire to tango,
The relationship thrives in a concerto.

    When heart and divinity meet,
    When senses and spirit agree,
God's glory carols in colorful glee.

The Allure Of Crimea                                    Sept. 25, 2019

Probing into Crimea through her tragic history
Being annexed by the Russian Empire in the 18th century
Returning back to Ukraine after USSR's disintegration
Again being annexed by Russia in 2014 after the Ukrainian revolution
Ukraine is caught in US political battles on the hot seat,
Eliciting my vivid memories, remarkable and sweet.

Yalta, the subtropical jewel, in the Black Sea
The odyssey resort for Tolstoy, Chekhov, and other Russian gentries
The 1945 "Big Three" Conference flagged Livadia Palace on the map.
Lots of sanatoriums for Soviet officials, their health spas or rehabs.
The Swallow's Nest, the famed symbol of Crimea, in a warm embrace
Allures countless camera lenses for its exquisite grace.

Odessa, another "sinking" city, at the mercy of the limestone.
Catherine The Great laid the foundation honoring her throne.
The beauty of the Opera Theatre cracked on shifting ground.
Rescuing efforts are costly to find, a problem to have frowned upon.
The Potemkin Staircase tricks the eye with optical illusions.
The labyrinth of catacombs echoes with chaotic confusions.

Swiss Mercenary & The Lion in Pig of Lucerne  Sept. 16, 2019

Proven battlefield capabilities; sought-after Swiss mercenaries
Defending the French King Louis XVI with a resolution,
Eight hundred guards perished during the French Revolution.
The monument of Lucerne in memory of lost lives
The soldiers’ courage, strength, and loyalty survive.

A dying lion impaled by a spear; the fallen commemorated with tears
A shield of the French Monarchy honoring the guardsmen's fidelity
Another shield bearing the coat of arms of Switzerland, a noble cause stands.
"The saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world"
His admiration, an indelible impression, Mark Twain told.

The famed Danish sculptor, Thorvaldsen, was commissioned.
Laboring his task with lengthy details, inspiring symbols envisioned.
Lack of funding, his contracted stipend was not fully paid.
With anguish and in disgust he felt so betrayed.
Expressing his disdain, an outline of a pig was carved as a frame
To the amusement of future generations, Thorvaldsen displayed.

  Eagle's Nest Fantasia       Sept. 15, 2019

    While ascending through the clouds
The Sound of Music still ringing
The vista enchanting, yet in eerie shrouds
    Echoes high peaks' stark calling.

    An eruption of countless visions
Of Nazi's atrocities and outcries of desperation
    The Fuhrer's secret nest
With Eva Braun, a love affair in quest

Allied Forces eradicated this mountain fortress.
Of the 4-mile underground tunnel complex
The slave-toiled work one sighs still standing
    The would-be command center chilling

Psychopathic madness instigated the most destructive horror.
The proliferation of Neo-Nazism can spark the fire of terror.
The apparition of a nest incubating neurotic ideologies
Pray to God for His divine hands to prevent wanton orgies!

The Message of Water Lenses     Aug. 5, 2019
Bing Chang translated  from 吳成萍 's
《浮萍寄語》

I would like to be a drifting leaf of water lenses,
Wandering in the rainy night around the lotus pond.
Listening to raindrops, resonating with ethereal lyrics from the dazed celestial and beyond.

I would like to be a drifting leaf of water lenses,
    Floating on the shore of the West Lake;
Heeding the passing-by boats, accompanying the track of trailed blue wake.

I would like to be a drifting leaf of water lenses,
    Roaming on the Jialing River;
Witnessing the flowing water vanishing, recalling the poetic chanting of autumn cicadas ever!

I would like to be a drifting leaf of water lenses,
    Meandering by the seashore;
Noticing the fading apparition by the wind, longing for a distant moonlight amour.

浮萍寄語》
-- 吳成萍

             (胡適之體-現代白話古體散文新詩)

    我願作浮萍一片,飄浮在雨夜荷塘;
    聽雨點滴水音聲,醉天籟禪韻迴蕩。

    我願作浮萍一片,飄游在西子湖畔;
    看小舟唉乃穿過,伴碧波蕩漾漪渙。

    我願作浮萍一片,飄泊在嘉陵江邊;
    睹逝水如斯遠去,憶往日秋蟬詩篇。

    我願作浮萍一片,飄蕩在大海邊緣;
    望景物随風飄逝,願千里共賞嬋娟

Lake     July 19, 2019        Bing Chang translated  from 梁崇正 's《湖》

That early spring, reminisced about chancing upon the melting snow
Amid thickness, the dense abundant branches overflowed.
The clear lake with tossing swells
    The waves beamed whispering spell,
Veiled in the mist behind the curling shadow.

Years later while passing by in late fall
The summer sun baked the torrential storm in heated bawl.
The hazy prism brewed dark clouds and gusty gales,
Valley stream dried-up and sunk; Reeds wilted and frail
Wandering being lost, I rushed out with lamentable recall.

  The Curmudgeon's Sneeze                  June 17, 2019

"When we are born, we cry that we come to this great stage of fools."
Shakespeare, King Lear
Birth is a mishap; adulthood a misery; and over aging one won't drool.
"Love your neighbors and your enemies."
Are they the same people?

Does one see happiness or sense inner peace under the sacred steeple?
What is life? One wakes up and smell the thorns?
What is dream? One ventures into a world full of scorns.
"The better I get to know men, the more I find myself loving dogs."
Charles de Gaulle
The vast wildness is filled with rats, fleas, and surrounded by hogs.
"To be, or not to be?"
Do it or not do it? One will regret anyway.
The final leg of the journey is all uphill, the soul gasps and the body decays.

    A grumpy curmudgeon
    Struggling in the dark dungeon!

Dancing in the Dark                  Apr. 23, 2019

Moaning over my abject emptiness, I'm a puppet dangling at the end of torn strings.
Trapped in the cold air of darkness, I'm tapping my dance in lonely lifeless swings.
    When self-worthiness was sacked,
    My begrimed heart cracked.
    When dreams are gone,
    The morning never dawns.
Weeping over the path of my destiny,
Where is the pathos of melody?
    Hiding in my gloomy cocoon,
    I chant my wailing tune.
My tears exude blood into my brokenness.
    My soul fades into nothingness.

Oh, why should I scorn my shame?
Oh, God, please bear my burden and my blame.
Yelling for the deliverance of inside torment,
I humble myself in solitary lament.

Mystery Of Heart Beat                  Apr. 12, 2019

The mother after delivery was gone, but her heart lives on by donating transplant.
Her heart pumps up a thankful soul in a male body, and fresh life is dawned.
Her willful tears riding on the heartbeat permeating in the air abound.
Her invisible love searching for the lost baby bond, with despair, resounds.

The umbilical cord was cut, but the warm bosom was not found.
Fear and isolation in the baby's disheartening shrieks were profound.
Then, in the thankful soul's embrace, "Ba Boom" and "Ba Boom" are all around.
Baby's dread is drowned, and the angelical beam is crowned, God's glory unbound.

Welcoming The Year Of The Boar                  Feb. 5, 2019

The Yang Earth Dog bestows the new year on the Yin Earth Boar.

The earthly yin energy launches a challenging path to explore.

Political horrors, unnecessary world wars, tolerate no more.

Misgivings before, past roars, all damages are to be restored.

The gallantry of the boar whose sturdy core is bound to score.

May the spirit of the boar soar, The Most High's Will be adored.

Excursion To The Dead Sea and Masada          Nov. 23, 2018

It was a green pasture in the Jordan Valley like the garden of the Lord.
The two wicked cities fell by the fire and brimstone under God's sword.
It has since become escaping refuge in the barren desert by the Salt Sea.
Threatened by his many enemies, King Herod built his fortress here to flee.
Revolting Zealots took this stronghold to resist Romans persecution
After a long siege, the trapped resolved to remain free through self-execution.

The arid mountain caves preserved God's words for thousands of years.
The Dead Sea Scrolls, the find of the centuries, propitiously appeared,
One year before Israel's birth to fulfill Isaiah's foretelling of a sovereign nation.

The Isaiah's Scrolls also prophesized the birth of Christ for human salvation.
The consistency of the Scrolls with Scriptures yields faith with confidence.
We see the wonderful way God has perpetuated his words with credence

The Dead Sea was once dried up from studying the sediment extraction.
Deformed seismite layer confirmed Sodom-Gomorrah's destruction.
Ezekiel foresaw fishermen spreading their nets along the shore.
(Ezek 47:10)
Zechariah foresaw water from Jerusalem flowing to here for sure.
(Zech 14:8)
Many sinkholes by the Dead Sea start to be filled with fresh water and fish.
This desert region, in due time, will be restored by God and again flourish.

My Texas Medley                       October 30, 2018

Appears in "Montclair Write Group Sampler 2018",
published by Strange Worlds Publishing 2018

Bilingual signs everywhere spells historical Texas and Mexico divide.
Cowboy hats, western boots, longhorn symbols embrace Texan pride.
Everything is big here, big dreams; big thoughts and big appetite,
A big multi-nationality melting pot with ethnic stores always in sight.
Coexistence of diverse cultures exhibits vibrancy of humanity.
Southern hospitality with smiles echoes both serenity and vitality.

Zipping through speedy highways, cars sketch steers' stampede.
Hails darting down or twisters' touchdown compel one to heed.
Texas fine arts clinches the eclectic notion of a touch of her heritage.
"Hillbillies turn water into moonshine." Country western music's adage.
Should I become a snowbird migrating to south from northeast chill?
A question to contemplate, and a tough decision to make, still.

What Happens To Me?          September 30, 2018

My wife chuckled at my remark of cleaning the deck with "blood" thinner.
Did I ever tell my doctor that I was taking medications for "paint" thinner?

I went upstairs to fetch something,
    But came down without anything.

    My hearing aids collect voices,
    But my brain confuses.

    My eye lenses collect lights,
    But floaters blur my sights.

I was told I am a person with dominant right-brain.
But, nothing seems to be right in my right brain,
And nothing seems to be left in my left brain.

I am trying to keep my heart unclogged,
Even though my mind is fogged.
Clinging to my chest, can God's words still be hugged?

  Human Creativity          September 19, 2018

The spirit of God fills human minds "with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills"
(Exodus 35:31)

"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us."
(Romans 12:6)

And we are called to do what God wills.

Knowledge advances by unwavering venture into the ocean of uncertainty,

Wisdom glows in unyielding perseverance from God's trials in adversity.

Knowledge and wisdom sprouts into the power of human creativity.

We create according to God's principles and natural laws in His divinity.

The field of science is tilled. The lyricism of art outpours thrill.

Propelling civilization, human builds; and God's glory is fulfilled.

  A Back-To-School Item          September 19, 2018

Excavating basement clutters, I found this vintage notebook today.

The half-century old technology already had flat display.

It has decent storage, and it is extremely light weighted.

It can fit in any school bag and be easily tucked away.

A back-to-school item for my grandson? I asked: "Is it okay?"

A resounding nay in a wicked and prankish way!

Neither Rich Nor Crazy          August 18, 2018

I am neither rich nor crazy, but I'm Asian.

My mind not hazy, I am also God's creation.

America was formed through immigrants' migration.

Ethnic sensitivity becomes our nation's fixation.

Stereotyping won't break barriers but hurts integration.

Racial profiling deepens human rights violation.

God bless America. How can we sustain her as a great nation?

What Was The Event?          August 7, 2018

    - This event caused a well-known top naval strategist to be demoted. Later, he resigned from his government.
    - This event was referred to as "Baptism Of Fire", and the spirits of two nations were born.
    - In this event the true benevolence of humanity exuded regardless conflicts between enemies.
    - A 600-year Empire collapsed shortly after this event.

    What was this event?
    *********************************************************************

Cruising through the Dardanelles Strait, sitting in QE's Commodore Lounge,
Listening to stories of history, my thoughts turned into emotional mélange.

The young ambitious Churchill believed in the Gallipoli campaign of strategic viability.
His miscalculation resulted in disastrous 8-month stalemate with countless casualties.
He accepted his fate, left government, went to a Western Front battalion to command.
The experience tested his character, ultimately made him a better leader in demand.

The landing of Aussies and Kiwis at Anzac defined the spirit of their two nations.
Their valor in fighting for the good cause of liberty stood tall with their conviction.
Turk's constant bombardments did not dampen their courage and endurance in misery.
The war memorial inscribing fallen souls immortalizes their suffering and bravery.

Deadly diseases swept through both Allied and Turkish troops in grueling condition.
Combat training did not instruct mercy at battleground in the life-or-death decision.
Yet heroism of humanity saved many dying enemy lives at Gallipoli by both sides.
During carnage, God's sacred seed of benevolence in human heart never subsides.

The already crumbled Ottoman Empire entered the war as one of the Central Powers.
Although Constantinople was saved in Gallipoli Campaign, heavy tolls she suffered.
The 600-year old Ottoman Empire ended in 1918, and Turkish Nationalism was born.
Gallipoli marks a symbol more than just futility, but 3 national ideologies dawned.

What Is The Name Of The Town?          August 2, 2018

It is located in the region called "Fiery Fields" where active volcanic activities constantly shift its ground level up and down.
Such unique phenomena qualifies it to be a UNESCO site.
It was an important port city in the Roman world, and Romans built 2 amphitheatres in this city.
The Apostle Paul stopped here on his way to Rome to appeal his sentence before Caesar, as noted in the Book of Acts.
An illegitimate child was brought up by her grandmother in this town. Later she became a famous movie star.

    What town is it?

    ***********************************

    Jets of sulfurous steam; chaotic lava flows;
Gaseous mud pools, and thermal spring blows,
The 1983 earthquake destroyed part of the town.
The hotel we stayed in 1982 was brought down.

There were only 4 cities where Romans built 2 amphitheatres.
Flavian Amphitheatre is better preserved than the ones in 3 others.
Trap doors holding cages of wild animals opened for cruel games.
The dark image of gladiators beneath the arena's floor remains.

Apostle Paul stayed here for a week before his death in Rome.
Oscar Awarded actress, Sophia Loren, calls this town her home.
The forever ground tremors tinted by sulfur fumes cast melancholy.
The memorable town near Naples and Vesuvius is called Pozzuoli.

  Personal Platform          July 20, 2018

    Your thoughts qualify you.
    Your words identify you.
    Your work represents you.
    Your relationships connect you.
    Your character brands you.
    Your soul elevates you.
    Your spirit illuminates you.
    And, that's your platform.

You Be The Judge            July 8, 2018

My friend remarked: "You be the judge."
    Who am I to judge?
Overseeing our souls, God be the Judge.
His words in me, never too much
He is love; love in me, I bear no grudge.
    But,
My darkness in spirit is to be judged.
My fault in character is to be judged.
My indulgence in flesh is to be judged.
God judge, I dare not budge.

America: the Pitiful! Or the Hopeful?     July 3, 2018

    O graceful for spacious skies,
    For chilling waves of rain,
    For purple mountain majesties
    Above the divided plain!
    America! America!
God had shed His grace on thee
And crowned thy good with brotherhood
.   Now the garbage filled and plastic shining sea!

O so faithful for pilgrim feet,
    Whose stern, impassioned stress
    A thoroughfare for freedom beat
    Across the wilderness!
    America! America!
God had mended thine every flaw,
    Confirmed thy soul in self-control,
    Now thy wantonness of brawl!

    O beautiful for heroes proved
    In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved
    And mercy more than life!
    America! America!
    May God thy spirit revived,
    Till all success be nobleness,
    And every deed divine!

    O beautiful for leader's dream
    That sees beyond the years
    Thine soul of faithfulness gleam
    Undimmed by human tears!
    America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to real shining sea!

America indeed is beautiful, a land of "milk and honey".
God bless America, the hopeful land, my adopted country!

My Eurasia Reflections                June 28, 2018

Iconic imageries hovering over 22 onion domes of the Transfiguration Church,
Aurora emitted from the 9 onion domes of the nearby Intercession Church,
Into Kizhi Island's(1) woods, echoes from the ringing bell pursuing endless search,
Psalm 22:22: "I will declare your name to my people; in the assembly I will praise you."

Men's destiny: Jesus' brilliant shining face from transfiguration see through.

Psalm 9:9: "The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble."
Men's salvation: The Lord “lives always to make intercession.” So they will not stumble.
The burning 22+9 "torches" sanctify human hearts from Kizhi's two churches.

The taunting ridicule of Ivan the Terrible reverberated in St. Basil's domes.
Ivan's victorious attacks on Kazan razed thousands of Tartars' homes.
He transfigured the artistic bulbous dome of mosques into Orthodox domes.
The dark historical pageant on this shivering land cast ghostly apparition
Of raging wars, bloody massacres, murderers before the altar of supplication.
Jasper Fforde: "Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse."
Tsarist autocracy; civil war atrocity; revolution cruelty; all human abuses
Etched in the Chronicles before omniscient God under sacred onion domes.

The remains of Romanovs(2), the deposed Czar, found the final resting place in peace.

Under the dome of Peter and Paul Cathedral justice was served and pains released.
At my chance encounter of his new tomb in 1998, my searching for answers ceased.
Monstrosity such as mutilating innocent children reflects utmost ugliness of humanity.
Irrationality of fanatics escalates wanton acts into tragic brutality and insanity.
God's absolute sovereignty does not clash with human freewill and responsibility.
God paves the righteous way level and smooth so one walks straight with integrity.
Tolstoy's belief in responsibility with determinism embodied his "War and Peace."

The silhouette of Kizhi's multi-cupola domes fuses into Lake Onega's (3) sacred serenity.

Oh! the "22+9" torches" exalt the mighty God's divinity.

     Notes:

    (1) Kizhi Island is located in Lake Onega, about 220 miles from St. Petersburg.

    (2) "On July 17, 2018, Russia will mark a centenary that is likely to prove more significant – nationally, emotionally and spiritually – than the anniversary of the revolution that precedes it in 2017." During the Russian Revolution of 1917, Bolshevik revolutionaries toppled the monarchy, ending the Romanov dynasty. Czar Nicholas II and his entire family—including his young children—were brutally shot. bayoneted and mutilated on July 17, 1918. Eighty years later, most of the family remains were discovered and laid to rest in St Petersburg's Peter and Paul Cathedral. We visited the Cathedral in 1998 in front of their graves. We were moved by their stories.

    (3) Lake Onega is the second largest lake in Europe after Lake Ladoga also in Russia.

Endurance From My Hand Golf Cart          May 24, 2018

Endurance is not just the ability to bear misery,
But it is a soul searching to answer my own query.

    Hauling of the hand cart through the soaked grassland;
Gasping from pushing it uphill from exhausting demand,
Took a heavy toll on the muscle of my back and hand , yet
The invitation of an empty motor-cart seat was to withstand.

The biting heat from the relentless sun beam
Baked the grease of my sweaty skin to steam.
Swarms of gnats sought "hole-in-one" around my nostril,
And I dodged their fierce chasing paths of peril.

My sore shoulders upheld my stiff neck and sleepy head.
I said my prayers to conquer the feeling of dread.
The inviting 18th hole smiled my final trial.
Proving my aged strength; I am not in denial.

Was I such a fool having gone through this torment test?
Was my unyielding worn mind possessed?

  An Encounter With D-Day          June 6, 2018

Swathed in the spirit of valiant heroes,
Over multitudes of white-crossed grave rows,
    I trembled in the ghastly vision of horror;
I heard machine guns' shrieking furor.
Bursting shells blanked beaches of terror.
"Keep moving lads!" under the banner of "Operation Overlord"

Bodies of Glider troops hung from the trees,
Sand and blood in the melee; arms and legs in the sea,
"Keep moving lads!, keep moving" ordered by the decree.
Valor marched on in the screaming of death, no way to flee.
By Day's end, Allied forces celebrated rejoicing jubilee,
The beginning of the end of WW II, from Nazi Europe was free.

Over 13,000 Chinese-Americans served during WW II.
Unknown Chinese-American soldiers fell on Normandy beaches too.
Sergeant Arthur Wong saved his squad from German's pursuit.
Medical Sgt. Frank Wong treated many injured, his act to be saluted.
Side-by-side many nations fought together. The Dark Prince met his waterloo.
Visiting the Normandy Memorial, I paid my heartfelt tribute.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
George Santayana
    Viva, Normandy's spirit!

  《青玉案》— 元夕         張彬彬 英譯   March 23, 2018

East wind in the dark blossomed into thousands of blooming trees
And puffed out showers of stars to flee.
Fine chariots drawn by cherished horses gave forth pleasing aroma en route.
Ringing hymns echoed from the melodic air of the flute.
The lantern of revolving jade-pot shed its full light.
The fish lamp danced with the dragon lamp all night.

Stylish ladies in gold costumes of butterfly and willow,
Chuckles floating, the secret savor of their fragrance flowed.
    Seeking her thousands of times
She was right there while turning my head on the dime,
Where lights were dim, and vibes so grim.*

    * Bing's Footnote: China's rapid rising out of an isolated political theater in the past and our
longing for a promising motherland share a similar sentiment!
  "March Nor'easter"         張彬彬作   March 12, 2018

    One nor'easter after another nor'easter.
    Brought upon neighborhoods disaster.
Wet snow cast everywhere a spell of freeze.
Whirl wind downed lamp posts and trees.

O my cherry tree, the relentless storm disdained your despair.
Your exposed roots wept bitter tears and cursed in the air.
Once so full of blossom, you embraced birds to sing your glory.
Your fragrance vanished, and no more bees hum my memory.
Resonating with your pains, for a long time my sorrow I will bear.
Deep in the winter, will spring be far behind? I say my prayer.

"Snow in My Backyard"          Jan. 17, 2018

White crystals silently kiss trees and caress the ground.

My visions ride on the brisk wind through shrieking sound

    Tranquility passes through showering flakes.

Ugliness beneath the shining blanket cannot escape.

A sudden epiphany sanctifies my soul, my rejoicing profound!

"Fire and Fury"          Jan. 5, 2018

The "Little Rocket Man" proclaimed his nuclear button on his desk.
The "psychopath dotard" vindicated his bigger button in ready check.
"Oh, Yeah? My hands are bigger than yours!"
"I'm sending fire and fury to you, the short, fat guy!" whom he assured.

Indeed, fire and fury also showered the House of comic strip.
West Wing being bombed, he could not zip people's lips.
"Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed."
"So, not go naked and be shamefully exposed."

  Pride & Prejudice         Dec. 1, 2017

Here came our neighbor, Carnival Glory.
The couple in designer's jeans announced they were from Queen Mary.
And, they were heading for the Diamond International holding their noses in the air.
The lady of our neighbor in her Wal-Mart shorts gibed back swaying her dyed hair
Unabashedly: "I am shopping gifts on sale. Diamond? No Siree!"

To every pride, there is prejudice and a moment for every ego trip.
    A moment to be proud of belonging to Queens or Princess Grill on the ship*;
    A moment to look down upon the Britannia's commoner;
A moment to feel pity for budget conscious downer.
The privileged self-admirer insists on dunking biscuits in tea over gossip.

    * NOTE: Cunard cruise ships have class dining system which means suite-class passengers eat meals privately and
elegantly in either the Queens or Princess Grill, while those staying in non-suites are allocated to the Britannia Restaurant.

  Shadowy Hackers             Nov. 16, 2017

Shadowy hackers infiltrated the core of NSA and sneered,

Defying US spying operations by stealing US tools pioneered.

Can cyber wars equalize powers and eliminate hegemony,

Hence, facilitate detente and mitigate the notion of enemy?

So, can security breach, a forced info-sharing, be cheered?

Flushing The Heart?         Nov. 14, 2017

Face book prompts me daily: "What's on your mind?"

Cluttered with noises, a good sharing is hard to find.

Merry-go-around of life doesn't go beyond mundane existence.

Screaming in vain, my soul molders in boredom with persistence.

Can a good flush of my heart leave nothing crap behind?

The Red Army Ushanka Hat         Oct. 28, 2017

Wearing the Ushanka hat as a Bolshevik Red Army ghost,

I conjured up an apparition, with images my mind being engrossed.

Trying to intuit the sensibility of "War and Peace",

I hardly could decode Russian bear's caprice.

A frenzied soul in the snow seeks reasons to its utmost.

Three Limericks While In Ireland         Oct. 5, 2017

We drove by the town of Limerick.

I tried to write a poetic limerick.

    I racked my brain.

    I screamed in vain.

I couldn't find any inspiring trick.

    <><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

My hair stands on end shrieking.

Can I trust the bus driver's steering?

My heart was saddened by historical tragedies.

But, my spirit was brightened by Celtic melodies.

Every two hours my bladder ordered a stop for peeing.

    <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Daily breakfast: Sausages, eggs and ham

Fat, or no fat, Who cares? I don't give a damn.

    I am traveling.

    I am learning.

I savored Yeats' dreams over scones with jam.

  Savoring W. B. Yeats' Ireland        Sept. 21, 2017

I tread softly on Yeats' dreams.

    "I am of Ireland,

"And the Holy Land of Ireland,"

"Come dance with me in Ireland."

The spirit of shamrock beams; Yeats' verse gleams!

The beauty of Ireland, his dancing words could not withstand.

"When Time began to rant and rage"

"The measure of her flying feet"

"Made Ireland's heart begin to beat"

St. Patrick reigned, arising from a slave boy to a sage.

Yeats inspired all when his dreams and Ireland meet.

Here comes, Ireland! we will savor your sweet!

  Personal Branding                  Sept. 4, 2017

In heart, the Holy Spirit dwells.

    In mind, good thoughts swell.

    In mouth, fine words tell.

    In action, sound decisions sell.

    In character, one will excel.

The Sacred Number of 40                  Aug. 21, 2017
(The new month of Elul starts on 8/21/2017, 40 days to Yom Kippur on 9/30/2017.)

Is it a coincidence or God's design?

The number 40 appears 146 time in the Bible. It symbolizes a trial process.
Commanding to repent, God uses the cycle of 40 to inspire a sense of awe.

The flood from 40 days rain marked a cleansing process by God's willfulness.
"Moses was there with the Lord 40 days and 40 nights..." to receive God's laws.
He ascended the mountain for another 40 days to plead for God's forgiveness,
Because of his people's golden calf idolatry. what an abomination he saw!
He ascended to the Lord for yet another 40 days on behalf of their faithfulness,
By securing the two Tablets of laws in the wooden ark for a divine cause.
Chastising rebellions, God disciplined Israelites to wander for 40 years in wilderness.
Spying for 40 days on the promise land, God led Joshua to tear down Jericho's walls.

"Nineveh would be "destroyed" in 40 days." Jonah warned them for preparedness.
People of Nineveh believed and repented wholeheartedly, and the city did not fall.
Ezekiel laid on his right side for 40 days to grieve over Judah's sinfulness.
He foresaw Judah's iniquity of 40 years would lead to Jerusalem being mauled.
Four kings, Saul, David, Solomon and Joash, all ruled for 40 years with great progress.
God used them and inspired them so His will on judgment and renewal was exalted.
Jesus was tempted and tested for 40 days by the devil, thus testifying His righteousness.
Jesus spent 40 days between His resurrection and ascension to continue to amaze all.

The start of Elul, 40 days to Yom Kippur, calls for repentance, prayer and devoutness.
The number 40 has hope at its core. It embodies a provision of prosperity from God's call.

Sun Eating Dragon                  Aug. 21, 2017, 2:44 PM

The holes of my colander did not lie.

They caught the image of the dragon in the sky.

The beast bit the sun with a loud cry.

Taking out my big metal pot for a scare-tactic try,

My earnest banging worked, and the sun did not die.

The dragon spit out the sun which again flies high.

Wearing Sandals To Play Ping-pong                  Aug. 20, 2017

She forgot to bring her sneakers but wanted to play some ping-pong.
People warned her not to play in her heeled sandals. "It is too dangerous".
I said she could still play as long as she be careful. "Nothing is wrong".
"But, we are seniors." "We shouldn't take risks or be too adventurous."
"But, we can still test and push our limits while keeping our mind young."
"She should have then put on her appropriate sneakers and be cautious."
"The purpose of exercise is to keep fit and maintain our bodies being strong."

Problem solving in life aims at wise decisions to be drawn.
Risk factors are calculated but are not frowned upon
Senior minds are not yet gone. They should go further beyond.
For controllable factors, it is our responsibility to respond.
For uncontrollable factors, they are left to God to expound.
The practice of drilled exercise within limits is surly sound.
Say our prayers. God's grace and wisdom are profound.

  Mid-afternoon Dream                  Aug. 9, 2017

Roaming minds of drifters meandered through the lazy afternoon.

At yonder land seeking for answers, trying to be attuned.

Debussy's dream of the faun hazed their sleepy thoughts.

Their fancies wandered afar begging for roots, but felt loss.

A generation of missing cradle licks their life struggle wounds.

Savoring the last journey, their spirits are not to be marooned.

  Remembering Rome                  Aug. 2, 2017

I caught a piece of drifting memory,
    Waiting eagerly for rediscovery.
    Historical knowledge transforms its elusiveness
    Into meaningful experience of insightfulness.
Rome prides itself on its rich century old history.
While we were young, we stepped into its hidden mystery.
Coloseum, the symbol of Rome's greatness,
Harbored the valley of death in bloodiness.

Titus built it using spoils from the Jewish Temple in victory.
Christians were burnt as torches, a carnage of butchery.
Gladiators combated for their lives entertaining wantonness.
Martyrs mauled by wild animals marked triumphant witness.
Lamenting under the cross, we exalted martyrdom's glory.
Walking through the ruins, we were bewildered by fury.
Coloseum's dark shadow extends into catacomb's gloominess.
Frescos and statues on crypts inscribed vivid stories of sadness.

3000 were converted by God's spirit dwelled in St. Peter's sanctuary.
3000 Golden Calf followers perished by Judgment on their idolatry.
St. Peter was martyred under Emperor Nero's monstrousness.
His upside-down body honoring Jesus showed his humbleness.
Pilgrimage to St. Peter's Square refocused the prism of our discovery.
Mining relevant pieces of history anchored our fleeting memory
Edifice built, edifice decayed. Human efforts forever mean helplessness.
Trials tested, purposes laid. His glory shines forever with righteousness.

  Remembering Cremona                  July 30, 2017

In 1971, while roaming through autoroute and autostrada,
From Geneva en route to French Riviera,
After our eyes feasted by the Lake Como's magic beauty,
And our ears gratified by La Scala's famed acoustic quality,
Our rental car broke down causing stomach-turning agita.
The tow truck came to our rescue testing our karma.
Garages were all closed, so the driver took us to a mechanic off duty.
He then drove us to a nearby inn. What a respectable Italian hospitality!

We awoke in a strange town amid a cluster of luthier workshops around us.
What a serendipity! We immersed in the aura of world famous Stradivarius!
Cremona shrouded in its work secrecy exemplifying an inexplicable persona.
Theories presented, theories debunked, myths abound with Stradi's enigma.
A casual glance over the intricacy of workmanship left a mind more curious.
The master of 17th century crafted sound resonance unsurpassed and so joyous.
The saga of our car plight chanced upon Cremona.
I am still savoring the instrument workshop's aroma.

Digitize My Memory                  July 22, 2017

Procrastination has prolonged my old films' decay.

Aging has accelerated my neural cells to go astray.

The digital converter, a saving grace, came never too late.

Hazy images from the conversion trap my mind as a prey.

Where was the place? Was it I? A guessing game to play!

Red hue, blue hue or discoloring did not ruin the display.

Converted images being secured on hard disk never fade.

I can reminisce and savor the sweetness of good old days.

Finding our young selves rekindles passions one can relate.

Seeing the familiar smile touches heart feeling great.

Reflecting on the past, I count all the blessings, and I pray.

Existence at a point of time and space discovers its heyday.

Digitized old moments leave behind treasures to stay.

Annotation are meant for posterity, something to convey.

Three Fathers Learning To Be Golfers   July 1, 2017

Three fathers: grandsons' father; father's father and In-law father

Trotted on the golf course as busy trotters.

Two balls in the pond; several in the woods and some hit sand blockers.

Consistent over-shoot way over the greens, so yonder,

What a bummer! But no bother. We are better ball spotters than golfers.

"No ball kicking please, use your putter!"

In our laughter, we all are philosophers.

Looking at each other, sometimes we pondered.

Testing the endurance of frustration did not dampen the desire to be a golfer!

Lost In The Lure Of Mountain Lakes   May 27, 2017

Strolling in the misty haze along the Boulevard of Mountain Lakes,
I tried to find solace in the harmony of manicured hills and landscapes.
Leaden clouds overcast the sky, and lustful green turned into grey hues.
The yoke of mood weighed me down, and my mind always confuses.
The charming allure of lakeshore nodded to joggers with yawning excuses.
My downcast soul felt insecure. My mixed thoughts yielded only blues.
Dreamy aura simmered from the lake water disappeared into dreary woes.
Bitterness and sadness besieged me, and my prayer lost a sense of purposes.

When the sun again shines, the enchanting charm returns to Mountain Lakes.
In glory my heart desires to partake. Will l walk in the light of God's make?
When the quays meet lush blue waves, paddlers return to their warm embrace.
My sensibility fuses with faith. Will I bear fruits by His amazing grace?
When the shoreline tulip trees bloom, joggers take rest in the full shade.
Believing God to be my refuge, will my trust in Him grow and not fade?
When vista's spirit permeates, harmony of mountains and lakes celebrates.
May hope be breathed into my agony, and my dejected being again jubilates!

(From a lonely walk during the Memorial Day weekend)

  Hypocrisy   Apr. 4, 2017

I can control my pre-diabetic diet, but only so far as it does not interfere with my Costco's free food tasting.

I can restrain myself not to rush through the yellow light, but only so far as I won't miss the early bird dinner.

I can discipline youngsters' driving habits, but only so far as I myself can still do texting while driving.

I can pray for reasons and ask for forgiveness, but only so far as my vain desire won't label me as a sinner.

I can tolerate diverse or opposing viewpoints, but only so far as they won't infringe on my proud thinking.

I can advocate for justice and fairness, but only so far as they won't reveal my sinister demeanor.

May God instill in me more remorse feeling, and rescue me as a hypocritical downer.

Who Is The Real Hick?   March 31, 2017

Who is the real hick? That's the question.

Hillbilly, though lampooned as raw without cultivation,

    May outsmart urbanites of sophistication.

Well-groomed urbanites, though cultured with education,

    Sometimes veil themselves with deception.

Uncultured or unseasoned, but with a sincere disposition,

Compared with urbane and refined SOB of civilization,

A hick or a prick? Your speculation!

Remembering The Outback Campfire   Mar. 20, 2017

Cheerful Aussie guys, outback campfire, bread from hot rocks and meat pie.

The vast land expanse dwarfed the merry party under the twinkling sky.

The melancholy air from guitar strings sank into the subdued weeping cry.

The darkness swallowed the flickering fire.

The eternal silence multiplied, and the wood cracking was pacified.

A sense of turning loose echoing from the far horizons was deeply mystified.

My thoughts flew high, and my fancies were not shy.

The solitude and peace overtook my mind, and a divine revelation edify.

My soul swathed in outback's splendors was purified!

  A Man Without Gallbladder   Mar. 1, 2017

    A man without gallbladder,

Not to dream of the quarter pounder,

Forget about the deep fried fritter.

Oh, No, A platter of flounder in butter?

    Not even a juicy roaster?

Think harder! Stupid Me, No more disorder!

Surrender to God for His design wonder

Gallbladder or no gallbladder, it doesn't matter.

    Stay slender; it does matter.

  Blazing Sunset   Nov. 26, 2016

The blazing sunset shouts out the imminent mayhem.

Darkness soon blanks the land in its fearful reign.

Cronies enshrine twisted ideology singing their loyal anthem.

The acts of supremacy throw unlike neighbors in chains.

The alt-right waves make the alt-America great again.

  Montserrat   Nov. 19, 2016

A statue of serrated sand rocks was sculptured by God millions years ago.
Pedestaled on the Catalonia plain, it oversees the journey of humanity below.
The Monastery cuddled by the rock cliff supplicates for worshipper's woes.
The ringing of its bell pierces through the serenity of the monolith's shadow.

Individual bulging clasts laced by dark green yews and red holly berries
Shout aloud pains from cuts by the divine hand and their persistent stories.
The schizoid silhouette of jagged saw teeth shrouded in foggy mysteries
Reminisces Catalan's rocky past with bloody memories but also glories.

Sacred apparition to shepherds revealed Virgin Mary with her angelic voices.
Black Madonna fooled Parcifal on his search for the Holy Grail without traces.
She defended in her embrace Catalan's unyielding faith against Napoleon forces.
Monks martyred under Dictator Franco's gun prostrated before God on their faces.

The sounding bell resonates with the profundity of a pilgrim's experience.
The divinity of the vast aerial vista appeals to a deepened spiritual penance.
The aroma exuded from candles in the Abbey fuses into oak trees fragrance.
Montserrat's expedition has rooted in my memory for a sanctified remembrance.

La Sagrada Familia   Nov. 12, 2016

    Viva Barcelona!
    Viva La Sagrada Familia!
Antonio Gaudi dreamt up a glorious temple of art in his native Catalonia.
Eighteen towers, though unfinished, reverberate echoes of Ave Maria.

Venerating Christ, Gaudi elaborated a design using nature's wonders.
The sanctuary is splashed with colors of sunlight full of divine cheers.
Words from the liturgy inspirit visitors with deep introspective prayers.
The grandeur of expressing spirituality illuminates the hearts of viewers.

Oh! La Sagrada Familia, what an allure!
Oh! Antonio Gaudi, what a visionary for sure!

Protagonists To DC    Sep. 24, 2016

What is character? Civility? or Lunacy?

What is humanity? Love or hatred?

What is judgment? Wisdom or folly?

What is the choice? the worthy or the faulty?

Dark Force Creeping   Jul. 28, 2016

The snake instigated doubts in Eve's mind,
And the sacred relationship was severed.
Snake oil muffles ears and strikes eyes blind.
The dark force divides and conquers.

Dirt is dug out to power attacks.
Sugar coated data turns into slogans.
    Analytics engineers smears and whacks.
Senses of confounded minds are stolen.

Sanctioning of fear defeats unity, and chaos hastens.
Banality agitates darkness, and evil threatens.
    Propaganda fans the psychotic ego.
    Deafened adherents worships and echoes.

Lack of ideology is destined to fall.
Founding principles are to be recalled

  Send-off Gathering For Robert/Anita Hsu    Jul. 19, 2016

So, Robert/Anita are escaping from New Jersey and heading to Florida, Land of Sunshine.

NJ Gang of JiangKuo62** bid our send-off and salute them with a well-wish cup of wine.

Our gathering invigorated each individual's anecdotes and animated everyone's storylines.

We celebrate our good health and high spirits, but all ponder over the journey of our timeline.

Senior life is not to be redefined. With variety of dishes we just indulged ourselves and dined.

I lifted the great pyramid of Giza.

    Its weight inflicted heavy agita.

I leaned against the tower of Pisa,

    Moaning the damn indigestible pizza.

  Dance Showcase   Apr. 23, 2016         https://youtu.be/CX_1E9u0dV8

Disciplined training found an outlet for a public proclamation.

Enduring rigorous instructions embodied the meaning of liberation.

Frequent disheartened outcries reaffirmed the persistent volition.

Coach's cheering on a breakthrough marked encouraging recognition.

The melodic waves contour the shaping of our movements.

The rhythmic beat punctuates each pose of the basic element.

When the vitality of soul leads the body flow full of inspiration,

One can witness the harmony and the aesthetic merit of conception.

The profundity of the artistic form exhibits spiritual adoration.

An adventure in search of beauty honors God's intended creation.

Artistic beauty offers an ultimate truth and a sense of fulfillment.

The Showcase evokes the depth of introspection and enrichment.

  A Sudden Snow Shower   Feb. 5, 2016

The white flakes gently kiss the tree.

The piercing wind sets the silence free.

The moving epiphany of His decree

Blankets in white the worldly spree.

The sun ray shines; the dark clouds flee.

The squirrel from hiding sings joyful glee.

Snow white in melting slush begs her plea.

Counting our blessings, we thank Thee.

Santiago de Compostela - A Shrine for Another God?   December 5, 2015

Cyberspace breeds liars. On November 28,2015, Lucy and I paid a sacred visit
to Santiago de Compostela, the third largest pilgrimage sites after Jerusalem and
Rome. Our taxi ride from La Coruna to Santiago covered only 73.6 Km, so our
"pilgrimage journey" does not qualify the "camino passport" Ha! Ha!

I do have some thoughts on the shrine for the saint, St. James. I would like to
share them below in a poem and hope to hear from you for comments or opinions.

O! St. James the Great, the first martyr for faith among the Twelve Apostles,
Joined his redeemer in a headless body after the Virgin Mary's apparition miracle.
A stone boat carried St. James' bones to the Iberia coastal town of Santiago.
A legend proclaimed him as Spain's national patron against Moors in battles.

The Cathedral of Santiago was built to venerate St. James in its gilded altar.
It has attracted millions of devotees for pilgrimage in this revered spiritual shelter.
Countless worshipers hug the beloved statue of St. James as a good luck booster.
Myriad prayers plead their wishes in front of his crypt for a personal protector.

Following Christ, St. James received the divine instructions and God's revealing.
He witnessed Jesus' Transfiguration when humanity and divinity were connecting.
The discipleship of St. James authenticated his missions in Iberia on Jesus' teaching.
Facing the persecution of beheading, he rejoiced for his faith stood unwavering.

O! faithful minds of pilgrims in the cathedral nave, exalting the majestic golden statue,
Might be beguiled from the True God in the aroma from the grand censer by the pew.
Without God's blessing, the sainthood won't protect, and prayers won't go through.
Behold! An idol veiled by showy glitters may bury the Truth one should pay homage to.

          What ?                               Oct. 9, 2015
         Cyberspace breeds liars.
         Viral tales go haywire.
         Data and noises conspire.
         Fart kindles fires.
         Hot air bloats higher.
         Will truth expire?

          Tango Dancing Pope                               Sept. 2015
White smoke from Vatican conclave bestowed a surprise Pope on worshipers.
The first Jesuit, the first Latin American Papa prayed at St. Peter Square's vespers.
He named himself Francis to embody the spirit of the Assisi Saint as his dear.
A radical? A revolutionary? A reformer? He aroused people's hearts in cheers.

A citizen of three countries knowing 7 languages, he holds a degree of chemistry.
He lives a simple life but enjoying soccer, movies and baking his favorite pastry.
As a youth he learned how to dance Argentine Tango and appreciated its artistry.
For the outcasts, following Jesus, he preaches diversity and solidarity in his ministry.

         P.S.
Celebrating Pope Francis' 78th birthday, thousands of people danced tango at St. Peter's Square:

          Embracing Greatness          8/29/2015
When a unique inheritance is naturally born,
It is to be self-recognized and learned.
When it is drilled, a skill is earned.
When the skill is perfected, a prestige is returned.

When a gift is supernaturally given,
One's character is to nurture it often.
When it sows seeds, other minds open.
When it grows spirituality, other hearts are enlightened.

Racial boundaries of ballet are broken,
and a star, Misty Copeland, has risen!

Swan Song of The Mockingbird          7/16/2015
Colonial flags are coming down; mockingbirds cheering around town.
The honorable saint, once pedestalled in millions' minds,
Ghosted out of their fantasies with the shocking Watchman's find.

Believing in morality, fighting for justice, the essence of humanity stands.
The mockingbird mocks Scout's naïveté, her senses being led astray.
Realities cut unabashed adoration with a ray, many are feeling betrayed.

Yet, sublime integrity was indeed his goal, an imperfect but trying soul!
A journey to greatness challenges one who dares to fail with bruises.
Humanity advances with juxtaposition of dreams and realities with virtues.

Lucy Chang's Manhattan Dance Championships         7/3/2015
(Lucy was recalled as a finalist in Senior Open Gold International Ballroom at Manhattan
Dance Championships. She had never competed in Pro-Am Dance competitions in her life!)

She came to dance but did not intend to compete with others, But simply tried to dance better than herself. That's her druthers. Her heart not afraid of breaking, so she pushed without measure. Her dream not afraid of shattering, so she dared a real venture. Her bunions hurt, her knees and ankles run the risk of fracture. Her disciplined learning and drill eclipsed some physical torture. God helps those who help themselves regardless of any pressure. From all graded levels, she aimed at the highest not fearing failure. Out of 15 semi-finalists, she was recalled, a dark horse of obscure. Yes, she danced better than herself, her self-confidence re-assured. Over the hill? She redefines vigor and won't allow her spirit to wither. She whirled around gliding through moving melodies, dancing forever.

          Into the Sky         4/28/2015
                    - A Poem on The 25th Anniversary of Hubble Space Telescope

Hubble's 25-year encounter with the heavenly immensity; Apostle John's apocalyptic melodrama of celestial mystery; Continually baffled human minds with increasing uncertainties. Traversing along vast light-years, our consciousness in futility Groped for answers of black hole, dark energy and singularity. Seven lampstands, in the sound of trumpets, reveal Cosmo's reality. Hubble's mirrored lenses, no longer being faulty; Unveiled profuse testimonies of creation's beauty. Sandwiched between Alpha and Omega lies infinity. Shining stars of glittering galaxies gird sacred Sanctuary. Invisible dark forces collapse stars and swallow energy. Powerful antimatters annihilate universe's duality. The Cosmo war of light and darkness rages with intensity. Seven spirits channeled through the Lamb proclaim victory. Opened seals herald judgment on mortals' morality. Libation bowls baptize the era of trees of life in eternity.

Joint Celebration of Our 70th Birthdays         4/15/2015
                    - (John Wang (王頌平) & Bing Chang (張彬彬)
The beginning of our golden age was greeted by the sumptuous dishes At the Renowned Manor Restaurant, with our wives' welcoming wishes. We have seen life what it is all about and proclaimed all being figured out. Ridiculing our idiosyncrasies, we lamented yet absolved our deficiencies. Though it's time to be nostalgic, we rejoiced that our journeys have been fantastic. Counting all those blessings, we celebrate our lives with healthy progressing.

          A Blessing To Life         9/4/2014
 - A friend is going through her last stage of life in a hospice, and my heart goes
to her as well as all the souls in the hospice.
Life is flesh, sanctify it. Life is spirit, believe it. Life is temporality, journey it. Life is eternity, embrace it. Life is limit, transcend it. Life is infinity, enter it. Life is reality, accept it. Life is surreality, dream it. Life is memory, cherish it. Life is ethereality, experience it. Life is suffering, endure it. Life is relieving, thank it. Life is chaos, overlook it. Life is tranquility, enjoy it. Life is earthiness, ignore it. Life is divinity, praise it. Life is repentance, pray for it. Life is forgiveness, revere it. Life is distress, weather it. Life is peace, bathe in it. Life is sorrow, tolerate it. Life is love, hug it. Life is parting, bless it. Life is homecoming, glorify it.

The whirlwind of craze drawn to pop social lions
littered young minds with worshiped gods.
Jet-setting life styles embodying adorers' aspirations
polluted their souls with shrieking applauds.
Quick ascension, fame and money transform our culture.

         When social responsibility means to hide growth motives;
         When philanthropy only targets favorable tax incentives;
         When leadership only cares about popularity and approval ratings;
         When our society is obsessed with wealth, fame and high livings;
         I fear America's falling.

Can individual freedom choose to invent oneself but respect others' liberty?
Can private ownership promote economic fairness and equality?
Can free competition be guided to benefit all people with morality?
Can self-motivation be aspired to propel civilization to prosperity?
Can business ethics aim at a responsible custodianship of earth's resources?
Can charity purpose its giving to better human conditions in all instances?
Can leader's governance advance democracy on all public services?
Can our culture restore true fundamental virtues by suppressing all vices?
God bless America. I pray and I hope.
